World Series of Poker
I have a friend, let me just hide him under the name Mr XYZ (Mr X is getting too trite), and he has joined all WSOPs for the last 7 or 8 years. He has never won, not even placed in the money bracket, until last year. Last year, he placed (not in the top 20) but he managed to get a good enough cash. More than the buy-in, and large enough for him to treat all of us (30 guys) to an all-night drinking adventure.
When I asked him how he finally clinched something worthwhile at that particular WSOP, he said a mentor gave him priceless advice. That is: regarding the size of the field. Before last year's World Series of Poker, he always adopted the small-pot school of thought. But this mentor said: the truly big tourneys mean you would be facing myriad of scenarios where your stack would be at danger of getting melted down right before your eyes.
What it boils down to, in the World Series of Poker, varying techniques are mandated, unless one is contented on everything luck has to offer. Meaning, one would just pray for big hands at the crucial moments, but really, poker fact in the World Series of Poker is- they would not come at the Very Big moments.
Remember, he told me also, gamblers of this generation are getting more and more aggressive, thanks to all the seminars and online tutorials advocating such.Social Bookmarking
